  • We only work in teams of 1 or 2, and only service 1 or 2 homes a day

  • We offer a flexible schedule, and don’t penalize our staff if they cannot show up to work

  • We have liability insurance and workers compensation insurance

  • We have extensive experience working with seniors, post-surgery, chemo-therapy patients, immunocompromised people, and seniors.

  • We do not require you to be in the home/room when we clean.

We continue to follow the COVID-19 situation very closely and implementing advice from public health officials. We will continue to operate stronger cleaning procedures to protect customers and our staff from exposure.  Please visit the Government of Canada website for regular updates and preventative measures you should implement.

If you or anyone in your home is exhibiting any symptoms of the virus, or has recently travelled internationally, or is in self-isolation or quarantine, please notify us prior to our arrival so that we can reschedule your clean.

We will be vigilant in monitoring the situation and continue to implement all preventative measures within our organization, including the daily monitoring of the health of our staff.  We trust this email gives you assurances around the measures we are taking at Aqua City Cleaners to keep you, your family and your home safe.

“Spring Cleaning” is possible in the Winter

No matter how you’re celebrating this holiday season, I’m sure you’re ready to embrace the New Year. Don’t wait till the New Year or Spring to start doing some cleaning or decluttering. Let’s get a headstart and hopefully give you a mid-winter boost!

1. Donate your winter clothes

Winter clothes are always in need at homeless shelters, and winter is a perfect time to do some decluttering and support a good cause. Check out the Cool Aid Society Shelters, and Our Place in Victoria to drop off some winter essentials.

2. Add Durable, Easily Accessible Storage

The days are short and cold, and now is the perfect time to add additional accessible storage options. Consider plastic bins, or underbed storage that can either be purchased used, or at your favourite home good store.

3. Tackle the Drawer

Now you’ve gotten more storage, it’s time to tackle the dreadful drawers. We all have that drawer – it’s cluttered and filled with things we think we may need one day. When doing a winter reorganization, start with organizing this drawer and you’ll immediately feel accomplished.

4. Move things Around

Winter can feel stagnant, and is a wonderful time to move furniture around and maybe experiment with a new layout. This can bring a breath of fresh air to your space. Feel free to make a few sketches on paper of your ideal layout before moving things around.

6 things you didn’t know you could freeze

If you live in a major city, chances are you may live in an apartment with limited fridge space. Given the high cost of food, it often makes a lot of sense to buy food in bulk to save money. Here are some things that can be stored in the fridge/freezer. We recommend investing in freezer bags, because who likes freezer burn?

1. Coconut Milk

Coconut milk, almond milk, or oat milk are excellent, flavorful alternatives to dairy. If you don’t have enough room in your fridge, you can pour your milk into ice trays and use it in smoothies.

2. Grapes

Mushy grapes are terrible. Eliminate the risk of your grapes getting soggy by pulling them apart as soon as you get them home, setting aside the ones you want to eat, throwing away the nasties, and freezing the rest. Use them in refreshing snacks and drinks (**HINT** sangria)

3. Flour

Store flour in the fridge in an airtight container to eliminate the risk of bugs and other infestations. Flour will last indefinitely when stored in the fridge.

4. Avocados

Your can freeze avacados either as in tact halves or as a puree, but you DO need to remove the skin and pit.

5. Bananas

You might know that the key to flavorful banana bread is to let the bananas get fully speckled.  If your bananas get to that point though and you aren’t ready to use them, remove them from the peel and put them in a ziplock or freezer-safe bag. Zip the bag part way so air can escape and squish the bananas.

6. Skin care

Did you know you could store your face masks, eye cream, vitamin C skincare products in the fridge?

Notes

Don’t freeze anything with mayo. Keep your cheese wrapped so it doesn’t dry out. Don’t put things that are steaming hot in the fridge, let them sit on the counter and cool off for half an hour

How to stop mold without harsh chemicals

If you’re looking for organic eco-friendly solutions to your mold problems, you’ve come to the right place. Most people don’t tend to notice mold until the job looks impossible to tackle, but you can beat the fungi at its game.

Being in the eco-friendly house cleaning business as long as we have, we’ve learned some secrets that we’re happy to share. Keep reading for our simple, affordable and environmentally-friendly ways to keep mold at bay.

Prioritize Ventilation

If the only place you’ve spotted mold is on the caulking around your bathtub or shower, prioritizing ventilating your room. Some methods include: keeping the window(s) open; keeping the bathroom door wide open after you’ve bathed or showered; installing a ceiling fan that ventilates or keeping a desk-sized fan in the bathroom to help ventilate the room’s moisture.

Concentrated Cleaning

One very simple way to keep mold at bay is through concentrated cleaning efforts. Use a squeegee to dry the shower stall, tiles and bathtub ledge. Don’t just stop there, use a microfibre cloth to finish the drying process. Mold adores damp areas, so drying up after each bath or shower will help stop mold.

Spray Away

There’s virtually nothing tea tree oil or distilled vinegar can’t tackle. If the mold in your bathroom looks frightening, don’t panic. The situation may look hopeless, but patience, time and a reusable spray bottle will work miracles.

If you plan on using tea tree oil at home, add 1 teaspoon of the anti-fungal oil and one cup of water in a spray bottle. Alternately, if using vinegar, add one cup of vinegar and three cups of water. Give the spray bottle a shake. Spray mold-covered areas. Let the solution sit on surfaces for an hour, then use a dish brush to scrub mold and mildew away. Rinse thoroughly to clear tea tree oil and vinegar residues.

Repeat as needed

If stains are stubborn, re-apply eco cleaner and leave again for another hour. We’ve seen some severe mold scenarios that have taken up to a week to clear. Don’t despair, just commit to a daily application of cleaner to completely remove stains.
